Upanishads Ganga Video Series
This YouTube playlist will take you to a series of 52 videos, titled Upanishads Ganga Series. For convenience, we have already prepared 10 for you above.
Each video elaborates on a theme based on texts from the Upanishads and encourages the viewer to self-reflect. It is the first TV series entirely dedicated to the Upanishads and was broadcast in India.
The series was created by Swami Tejomayananda, a student of Swami Chinmayananda, with whom James Swartz also studied.
The production of the series is in the hands of “Chinmaya Creations”, a branch of the “Chinmaya Mission”, an organization set up by Swami Chinmayananda himself, with the aim of bringing Vedanta to the attention. The organization now has more than 300 centers spread across the world.
Anyone who has studied Advaita Vedanta for a while, will come across familiar themes and concepts, such as: Brahman, Atman, Samsara, the 3 Gunas, Devotion, Maya, the Self and the non-Self, Karma, Liberation, Dharma, etc.
It is interesting how each concept is worked out. No teaching with a teacher speaking and you are the listener, but actors and actresses who portray the theme, among other things by portraying classic stories and myths from the scriptures. Many of these myths, stories and characters originate from the Mahabharata, one of the greatest literary works of world literature and a cornerstone of Hindu culture.
The series focuses on universal human questions such as ‘Who am I, the search for happiness and the meaning of existence.
We hear how gurus teach and inspire the seekers of liberation, there is a narrator who comments on the images or answers questions, you can listen to music, themes are dramatized and that’s how the 52 videos came about.
The episodes not only explain the essence of the Upanishads, but also show how this wisdom can be practically applied in everyday life. This inspires self-reflection and inner transformation and appeals to both laymen and connoisseurs.
I can confirm that and have watched this way of transferring knowledge with pleasure and interest.
