upahita

The self, ātman, is an upahita, when an upādhi (something from which its attribute is apparently transferred) appears. It seems that the upahita takes on the qualities of the upahi. That’s why it seems like I’m a person in a world, with all the qualities, characteristics and issues that entails.

Both cannot be physically distant from each other, but are in a different order of reality (satya mithyā relationship, so to speak).

The explanation of this Sanskrit term was written by Simon de Jong.
