VEDANTA

Science of Consciousness

adhikari

By vairāgyam (detached objectivity), this aspirant is willing to endure both pleasant and unpleasant situations with ease (titikṣā). The qualifications of sādhana catuṣṭayam are a means of gaining control and rest and becoming an adhikārī.

In fact, any preparation that refines the mind is a preparion to the transformation into an adhikārī. In general, seekers of freedom need a considerable period of practice in order to be able to hear the knowledge clearly and apply it to themselves.

Adhikārī is mentioned as the first of four characteristics (anubandha catuṣṭaya), which a vedānta reading or text must meet.

The explanation of this Sanskrit term was written by Simon de Jong.
