Science of Consciousness

Bheda Buddhi

This is an idea, a thought of the intellect (buddhi). Our thinking world is set up for duality and difference. The thinking world of a jīvanmukti or jñānī is non-dual and connected because he sees everything as an appearance of himself, and therefore loves everything as himself.

Thinking in differences is so common and universal that we do not know any better. And in a practical sense we must of course also think in differences, but with the knowledge that beneath the differences there is unity. That the differences arise and fall in non-dual consciousness.

So to attribute authenticity to differences is ignorance. There is no difference (abheda), there is no other (ananya). Everything is an expression in and of Brahman.

The explanation of this Sanskrit term was written by Simon de Jong.
