A seer (draṣṭāra) of mantras. Way to express the divine origin of the Vedas. A seer “sees” mantras in his mind, so that ignorance is removed and self-knowledge is revealed.
- mantra draṣṭāraḥ
A seer is one who, because of the right attitude of humility and devotion, receives the grace of the greater, through the words, the mantras that remove his or her ignorance. Then the self-knowledge, which was ready in potential, will shine in its full glory, and set that person free.
What is behind this? An individual mind is a subtle body that is absorbed in the infinite subtle body of īśvara. The dividing line here is between ignorance and knowledge. Ignorance comes from īśvara and knowledge comes from īśvara. What consciousness 'wants' is to know itself in order to stand free as itself. The ignorant must come to know enough to walk the path past God to itself. Then the wanderer becomes a seer.
